We’ve all seen images of the biohazard gear our frontline medicos are donning to test and interact with the COVID patients.
Beyond the obvious viral threat, could you imagine how difficult it would be in those restrictive suits to perform even the simplest of tasks? Well, we didn’t have to imagine the answer to that question for too long because we were tasked with shooting a video within St Vincent’s Hospital for a device critical to the pandemic. What followed led to a redefining of the term ‘pre-production.’
The paperwork alone would have stressed all but the hardiest manila folder and that was for just one person. Why – because that’s all we could use for the shoot. No lighting crew, no sound engineer, just our trusted cameraman who had to seriously multi-task in an outfit that could easily have been sourced from the set of ‘Contagion.’ Just to up the ante in the difficulty stakes, he could only be in the theatre for an hour which is roughly a third of what we deemed necessary.
At the end of the day, we got the footage ‘in the can’ and thankfully the editing process requires no such protection.
Whimsy aside, we at Razor Video Production are thankful for the opportunity to make a difference in these difficult times and look forward to a time when this is all behind us.
